80 Glorious Years Castleford Male Voice Choir
The choir's annual patrons' concert was also a celebration of its 80th birthday and what a wonderful way to share the celebrations with a capacity audience. For many years part of the staple musical diet in Yorkshire has been that of brass bands and male voice choirs.
This occaision provided a feast of the same as the choir and their guests, The Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Travel Band, entertained us with a varied programme of old favourites and relatively modern versions of familiar items.
The band members soon showed why they are one of the top performers in the country as they effortlessly played through a selection of classical and modern rhythmic pieces with brilliant solo work enhancing the overall ensemble under their conductor Mr Derek Renshaw.
In his own inimitable way the choir's conductor, Geoff Cox, led the singers through a programme of items that have proved popular throughout their history, coupled with some recently composed pieces illustrating the choir's versatility and also enabled Claire Burden, the choir's accompanist to perform impressively on the piano.
Traditionally the concert included seasonal items which involved the band, the choir and the audience and as always these brought a splendid night's entertainment to a rousing finish.
