Yorkshire Championship – Result
The Imps played what some called a commendable performance of Gustav Holst’s A Moorside Suite impressing the audience but not apparently those who mattered.

Although Imps were one of the favoured few before the contest it should be Hammonds Saltaire who should feel disappointed. Hammonds had been tipped by many with the Imps being hailed as their biggest rivals. However, contesting is contesting and both were way down the pecking order with Meltham and Meltham Mills conducted by Stuart Fawcett taking the First Section title.
Both Meltham and Meltham Mills and Hebden Bridge, conducted by former Imps conductor and favourite Roy Curran, go through to Harrogate in September. Another former conductor of the Imps, David Lancaster, led Kippax to a fine performance that also failed to impress the judges.
The question by many leaving the hall…what exactly were they looking for?
