Changes to ‘Imps’ Administration Team!
It is around this time that most bands manage to squeeze in their AGM before the preparations start in earnest for the forthcoming year signalled by the looming area contests.
Imps, like many other bands, pester, coax and cajole players and non players alike to give up more of their time to aid the running of the band but the most important and essential job is that of Band Secretary. It is not an easy job if it’s done properly as many ex-Secretaries will concur and requires a definite dedication to the cause to ensure the bands smooth running and progress. When things go well, like clockwork ……. “well that’s the secretary’s job.” and when there is a slight hiccough or oversight ……..well, who’d be a secretary anyway?
It is also quite usual that the Secretary’s role after a few months gets stretched a bit and they end up doing a few more jobs, as they arise, than was first thought about and all the other ones too that don’t fall into the other ‘more exactly defined’ positions on the committee.
Imps, during recent years has been graced by a Secretary that has done just that……… and more…….and more!
………. relentless time and effort ….always with a smile!
Anne Thorpe, who many will know as a helper at the Brass Band Registry, has given the band relentless time and effort and has virtually as they say ‘carried the band ‘ single handedly, without complaint and always with a smile! She originally joined the band to just help out with contest secretary duties.
It had been recognised that Ann’s remit was too rapidly expanding and soon bursting point would be reached ! Ann soldiered on ensuring ‘the job got done.’
The band has in the past been unsuccessful in their attempts to appoint a Band Manager (see previous post, Latest News item 9th May, 2008 Band Manager required ) and still wishes to fill this post if anyone is interested.
Meanwhile, at the recent band AGM, Diane Grant (whose son plays cornet with the band) expressed a wish to get more involved and volunteered to assist and share the work load with Ann.
……….our driving force and our “rock.”
Yorkshire Imps would like to publicly thank and express our gratitude to Ann for all her sterling work and are delighted she will continue with band administration in her original role as Contest Secretary, (with a little bit of Librarian thrown in too.. eh, Ann!) She has been our driving force and our “rock,” thank you Ann!
The band considers the additional help and assistance to Ann to be a great asset and one which can only strengthen the administration team and the progress of the band’s future management.
So, it’s welcome to Diane (and as I understand it, with help from her husband too!) to the committee and to the position of Band Secretary. We hope you both enjoy working with the band and find it very rewarding.
You can contact Diane Grant – Band Secretary, via our web site and similarly Ann Thorpe – Contest Secretary.
