Evans for Evan’s sake!

The Imps have announced the appointment of David Evans to lead their charge for Butlins Mineworkers Open National Brass Band Festival held in Skegness at the end of January.

Due to prior commitments, Richard Evans the band’s Professional Musical Director is in Australia and unable to take the band, so the former ‘Imps’ M.D. has been chosen to lead their 2009 assault.

David Evans last conducted the ‘Imps’ in 2003 and his past record with the band secured top ten finishes in the major contests including a top six finish at the

All England Masters in 2001 and a seventh position at the British Open in 2002.  David’s recent conducting successes has included Tredegar, Burry Port Band and The Fairey FP (Music) Band.

The contest, spread over two days, sees Championship bands do battle with the set test piece ‘Harrison’s Dream’ by Peter Graham on Saturday 17th, before going head to head with a full day of competitive entertainment on Sunday 18th January.

The ‘Imps’ are determined to improve their debut 2007 placing where final results from the two days revealed Yorkshire Imps had finished a very creditable 5th place overall (just missing out after a tied 4th place result put favourites to retain the title Polysteel Band, in fourth overall  in favour of Imps, due to a higher set test piece result) and 6th place overall in 2008.
